Lexus ES 300h
So today I am talking about a piece of Japan ie the all new Lexus 300h. Lexus had been trying to bring this car to india since 2013. But this year they have been successful. Now this is a full import from Japan meaning it will attract all the import duties and increase the prices. The Lexus ES300h costs around ₹55.27 lakhs es-showroom/Delhi. What makes the price bench even more is that the Lexus ES 300h shares a lot from the Toyota Camry. Remember Toyota owns Lexus. But before you roll out the Lexus as just the upgraded version of Camry, note that the similarities between the two remain hidden under the skin.
Coming to the design, the ES 300h looks like a proper Lexus which elegant and some part sporty too. Without a doubt what gives the Lexus a distinctive look is the oversized spindle grille which makes it very imposing. You are going to see some onlookers in a traffic jam. The sharply cut headlights add their own drama to the front. The ES does manage to carry out the 4.9 metre length in grace. You will like the tail lamps for its distinct look. You will love the boot for the amount of luggage it can hold...
Moving to the cabin, the seats not only look rich but have great cushioning. Talking about the dash, The Shimamoku ornamentation add a great sense of plushness in the cabin. The dashboard is divided into the centre console and multi-infotainment system. Some switches laxk the plush and tactile feel and looks like they have been borrowed from the Camry. The Lexus hosts a lot of features like the 3- zone climate control, memory seats, sunroof, and a reverse camera. The 15 speaker mark-levinson system is the best. Moving to safety it offers 10 airbags, ABS, EBD, TRACTION CONTROL, HILL ASSIST CONTROL and so on. The infotainment system on the lexus does not offer touchscreen indtead it can be controlled via a controller which acts as a joystick. In the starting it will not be easy to use but will get more intuitive as you use more.
What the Lexus shares from the Camry is the hybrid power train. From a 2.5 liproduces a decent 205 bhp of power and a healthy 213nm of torque. It also has a EV mode and a sports mode. The steering gets heavier in the sports mode but not interactive for the corners. For the corners the light Camry steering is excellent. Switching to the EV mode, it runs on pure electric mode but only for a few kilometers and you have to be gentle on the throttle. Though the Lexus is not a match in some spaces for it's German rivals it offers a interesting package and a good entry point for Lexus in India.
